TV Remote Not Working? Try This Weird Fix That Actually Works
If your TV remote stops working and new batteries don’t fix it, you’re not alone. There's one weird trick that often gets it working again—and it takes less than a minute.
The fix:
Take out the batteries, press every button on the remote one by one, then put the batteries back in.
Why it works:
Over time, remotes can build up static electricity or get stuck on a faulty signal due to a single button being half-pressed or jammed. Pressing all the buttons releases any stuck circuits and resets the signal.
Even better:
While the batteries are out, gently clean the battery terminals and make sure there’s no corrosion. If you see white powdery residue, clean it with a cotton swab and a little vinegar.
If that doesn’t work:
-
Try a different battery brand
-
Make sure the IR sensor on the TV is clean and not blocked
-
Double-check the batteries are facing the right way
Sometimes the dumbest fix is the one that works.
